Church Worker gets 2-7 years in $900,000 Embezzlement

PHILADELPHIA — A finance executive from Camden County who linked her $900,000 embezzlement from the Philadelphia archdiocese to the church’s sex-abuse scandal was sentenced Friday to two to seven years in prison.

Anita Guzzardi, 42, of Haddon Heights said she succumbed to gambling and shopping addictions after feeling betrayed by the church over the priest sex-abuse scandal.

Philadelphia Church Official Sentenced to at Least 3 Years in Prison

PHILADELPHIA — Msgr. William J. Lynn, the first Roman Catholic official in the United States to be convicted of covering up sexual abuses by priests under his supervision, was sentenced to three to six years in prison on Tuesday.

“You knew full well what was right, Monsignor Lynn, but you chose wrong,” said Common Pleas Judge M. Teresa Sarmina as she imposed the sentence, which was just short of the maximum of three and a half to seven years.

Man charged in Sex Assault of Girls from Church

{December 6, 2011 (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia man has been charged with rape in connection with a series of assaults on girls from his church.
