Bob Vernon
Pointman Leadership Institute
Bob Vernon joined the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in 1954. He studied police science at California State University at Los Angeles and continued his education by receiving an MBA from Pepperdine University. Bob went on to get an advanced degree at Northwestern University and is a graduate of the FBI’s National Executive Institute. Bob’s 38-year-career with the LAPD included assignments in virtually every facet of police work. He progressed through the ranks culminating in being named assistant chief of police (3 star officer) with 10,000 personnel under his command.
Bob founded Pointman Leadership Institute (PLI) in 1995. PLI serves the top leadership in over 35 countries worldwide and a host of government and private companies in the United States. PLI now has offices in South America and Africa as well as the United Kingdom. PLI presents biblically based leadership principles and shares the Gospel with associates and clients.
Bob has been married to his wife, Esther Reimer, since 1954. They have two children and nine grandchildren.
John Cook

John Kim Cook Ph.D. is a government and non-profit consultant with recent experience as a senior government executive. He is an accomplished, skilled visionary leader with a demonstrated ability to develop sound policy and quality programs. John is highly regarded as a resourceful problem solver with excellent presentation skills and strategic relationships. He is currently president and CEO of “Cook Strategies LLC,” a Washington, D.C., area consulting firm. He also serves as vice-president of the board of directors for the National Disaster Interfaiths Network (NDIN) and serves on the advisory board of the Institute for Church Safety and Risk Management (ICSARM). Previous to his consulting role, John served for eight years as a political appointee in the George W. Bush administration, serving most recently as director of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (CFBCI) and simultaneously designated by President Bush as FEMA’s small state and rural advocate.
John resides with his wife and two young sons in northern Virginia.
Dan Dumas
Dan Dumas, senior vice president for institutional administration at Southern Seminary, was born in 1965, in Augusta, Maine. Dan earned his bachelor of arts from The Criswell College in Dallas, and later pursued a master of divinity from The Master’s Seminary in Sun Valley, Calif.
Dan joined the Southern Seminary administration as senior vice president of institutional administration in October 2007. Dan brought with him a considerable track record of gifted leadership and God-honoring service in local church ministry.
Dan and his family are members of Eastside Community Church, where he serves as one of two founding pastor-teachers.
Dan teaches biannually at the Italian Theological Institute in Sicily, Italy, on the topics of theology, hermeneutics and sermon delivery. He served previously as the executive pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, Calif., where John MacArthur serves as preaching pastor. Dan has held posts as college and singles pastor at the Westside Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla., Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile, Ala. and at Victory Baptist Church in Dallas.
Dan is a veteran of the United States Navy search and rescue unit. He is married to his partner in ministry, Jane Sawyer Dumas, and they have two sons, Aidan Scott and Elijah Seth.
Ron Aguiar
As director of Safety and Security at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Ky., Ron Aguiar is responsible for recruiting and training hundreds of volunteers as well as overseeing dozens of paid employees and contract law enforcement officers. He has held his current position for 11 years and has worked in public law enforcement and private security for over 20 years. He has authored “Keeping Your Church Safe,” a book designed to help churches implement safety and security programs. A native of Hawaii, Ron lives with his wife of 30 years, Nancy, in Louisville. They have two grown children.
